CANSAT BELGIUM - 2015 - 2017 project call

What is the CANSAT BELGIUM project?

The product of a collaboration between the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region, the CanSat Belgium competition aims to raise the awareness of young people in their fifth year of secondary school about science through the implementation of a scientific project in the field of space: build their own satellite in the form of a 33 cl can and get it to fly aboard a rocket.

Have your fifth-year secondary students ever dreamt about implementing a scientific project in the field of space and getting it to fly aboard a rocket? It is now possible thanks to the action ‘CANSAT BELGIUM’! This adventure, launched in 2010 by the European Space Agency (ESA) education unit, aims to demonstrate the importance of new technologies in the conquest of space and to place dreams and emotions at the heart of the scientific adventure. That is the message which Wallonia and Brussels wish to convey to younger generations!

Mission

Apart from the ambition to encourage and develop young people's interest in science, the CanSat Belgium project offers fifth-year secondary students the unique opportunity to implement a first practical experiment for a space project. They are responsible for all aspects: the choice of the mission's objectives, the design of the CanSat, the integration of components, tests, the presentation in English to a jury of experts, preparation for the launch and, finally, the analysis of data.

Active participation of teachers

Teachers participating in the project will benefit from an information session (Workshop - on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 November 2015 in Namur) and will be assisted by a team of experts throughout the project's implementation. In addition to science teachers, English teachers are also invited to participate in this Europe-wide project for which the majority of exchanges will be in English.
